Happy to report that the course is in good condition, green throughout healthy grass growth. 4 yrs since last review so here it is for U!
Course condition much like the pictures posted awhile back. We tee'd off at 11:20 and finished in a little more than 4.5 hrs in NCGA Sr Series tournament format.
The classic West course is the longer (6359 max) of two here. Sugarloaf an executive par 63 designed for Srs & beginners but still challenging also winds in and about housing in this area of Santa Rosa off Rt 12. Older community and small homes line both courses with many members playing that live in the area. Two level clubhouse with the golf on the lower level and banquet area on the second floor looking over putting green smaller driving range and the course.
Greens in good shape mostly sloped back to front with strategic bunkering of grayish brown sand plays better than it looks. Medium speed greens nothing to fear. Subtle breaks versus large undulations. Rough was tougher length and t stopped quickly laying low and deep in areas. Fairways tight offering run out.
Like I mentioned healthy looking through the green and the website pricing makes this an attractive option. Driving here through Sonoma from Napa will save some $ to play golf. Traffic maybe a concern depending on time of day on single lane roads into this area. Nice and scenic through wine country. Friendly staff and locals. Nothing fancy or over the top, just solid golf facility in a nice area. Bev cart out on hotter sunny day $7 can of lager.
Course fully recovered from past challenges of ownership and management.
Enjoyed and recommend.

Back to Seven Hills in Hemet. Greens back in shape, grass with playable lies in all fairways, most green side bunkers full of "soft" sand, fairway bunkers just hard packed still. 3 and half hour round starting at 11:30. $40, why isn't this course closer to my home? we left parking lot at a few minutes to 3 and there were 12 cars in the lot and looking out at course as we drove out no one could even be seen out playing? Why isn't this course closer to home, we live near Yucaipa Valley and the place is always busyl.

Facility currently down to 18 holes for maintenance. IMO, they opened up the Mountain front too early after spring punching. These greens are bumpy and it will probably be at least another week before they are good again. No 2' putt is a gimmee on these things, you could bounce offline and miss the hole from a few ft. away on a relatively good putt.

Facility currently down to 18 holes for maintenance. IMO, they opened up the Mountain front too early after spring punching. These greens are bumpy and it will probably be at least another week before they are good again. No 2' putt is a gimmee on these things, you could bounce offline and miss the hole from a few ft. away on a relatively good putt.

Layout plays very different this time of year where they have all the rough remotely close to the greens mostly shaved down. Opens up putter or low bump/run as an option from well off many greens. Flipside is that when your ball rolls over a green, there is nothing to stop it from rolling well down until you hope it finally finds some taller grass or a low spot. Because if it does not, cactus and desertscape awaits.

Course from tee to the fringes is in excellent shoulder season shape. Had an out of state guest play with me last weekend and they charged him $63. I had 2 thoughts... First, was pleasantly surprised the guest rates were that low on Memorial Day weekend. But second, $63 is probably too much based on the current condition of these greens. Great layout, beautiful course. But really firm, sanded, fast greens that are bumpy is not my idea of a good time.

But POP is excellent. Basically whatever I choose this time of year with temps around 100 twilight when I usually play.

Staff as great and the price is reasonable, particularly compared to Orange County prices. Greens rolled very nicely (Or maybe it was because I made a bunch of putts?) fairways were decent for the most part, with a few areas needing attention. Bunkers were the worst part of the course, but overall, it was a positive experience. If I lived closer, I'd play here much more often. Recommend!

Its been many years since I've reviewed on GK. Although, i still read everyone's reviews weekly. I played in the CalAm qualifier last week, 5/21/24, at the Goose. The course was absolutely pristine from tee to green.

Kudos to the staff here. It was a joy playing here, as always.
