Year of the Dragon on Parade

Dragon Photo Contest 12212023 150dpi 01

February 10, 2024, marks the first day of the Year of the Wood Dragon. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco proudly presents this year’s Zodiac on Parade featuring the mythical Dragon. The public art project, which was introduced in 2021, will display five Wooden Dragon statues in and around San Francisco from Sunday, January 28 – Saturday, March 2, 2024.

The Dragon Statues spotlight publicly submitted artwork that reflects upon the culture, people, and traditions surrounding the Chinese New Year. Thank you to our sponsors, Alaska Airlines, Golden State Warriors, Lexus, Lucky California, and Sky River Casino for making this project come to life!

Thank you to all the artists who submitted their gorgeous designs!

Founded in 1975, API Legal Outreach provides culturally competent and linguistically appropriate legal representation, social services, and advocacy. Through these services, API Legal Outreach works to break the cycle of violence against women, youth and seniors, to advocate for the rights of immigrants and those with disabilities, to promote the dignity and independence of seniors and advocate for the basic rights such as affordable housing and the rights of tenants.

Asian Women’s Shelter was founded in 1988 to meet the needs of Asian immigrant and refugee survivors of gender-based violence. Since opening its doors, AWS has never closed—not for any night, weekend, holiday, storm, or pandemic. The mission of Asian Women’s Shelter (AWS) is to eliminate domestic violence by promoting the social, economic, and political self-determination of women and all survivors of violence and oppression. Asian Women’s Shelter works in culturally specific underserved populations of the San Francisco Bay Area, focusing especially on low-income and limited English proficient women, children, youth, and LBGTQ populations from Asia (continent, islands, and diaspora), and the Arab World (North Africa to the Gulf Peninsula and Southwest Asia).

AWS is well known for its agile, dedicated, and culturally responsive direct services, its engagement with marginalized communities, and its Multilingual Access Model (MLAM) Program that raises community capacities to address and prevent intimate partner violence in over 40 different languages. More information can be found at www.sfaws.org or by contacting info@sfaws.org.

As an established, long-term grantee of San Francisco’s workforce and youth departments, CCSC’s mission is to guide disadvantaged San Franciscans and immigrant families to success. Through our Culinary and CityBuild Construction vocational training programs, we aim to give practical tools and assistance in obtaining trade certifications to low-income San Franciscans for self-sufficiency and financial independence. In addition, our youth program assists immigrant students and families to assimilate to their new environment and culture. This is done through wrap-around support that addresses all aspects of their needs, including academics, resources, mental health, community, and skill building.
