- Google Loses Challenge against EU Antitrust Decision, Other Probes Loom [9/14, Reuters]
Google suffered one of its biggest setbacks when a top European court upheld a ruling that it broke competition rules and fined it a record 4.1B euros, in a move that may encourage other regulators to ratchet up pressure on the U.S. giant. Google had challenged an EU antitrust ruling, but the decision was broadly upheld by Europe's General Court.

The startup is one of several AI chip companies competing with Nvidia which dominates the AI market. Part of SambaNova’s strategy has been to offer a powerful chip with a software platform that makes it easier for companies without AI expertise to start using AI in their business. SambaNova offers both the hardware and software as a subscription.
- Upset by High Prices, GM's Cruise Develops Its Own Chips for Self-driving Cars [9/13, Reuters]
Cruise executives have given details about its custom chips that will power its Origin vehicle with no pedals or steering wheel. Jenkins, head of Cruise H/W, said in-house chip development required investments, but this would be recouped by scaling up production of cars which use multiple chips. He declined to say how much the company was investing on the project.
- Instagram Is Internally Testing a New Monetization Feature for Creators Called ‘Gifts’ [9/13, TechCrunch]
The feature would allow creators to toggle an option that will enable their fans to send them “Gifts.” Creators would also be able to check if they’re eligible for the feature under a new Gifts tab in their settings. The screenshots also suggest that users would be able to send Gifts via a button displayed at the bottom of Reels.

App Tracking Transparency, or ATT’s 2021 introduction is behind the rising prices for in-app purchases because the increases kick in before inflation began to hit hard in 2022. In other words, it appears that app publishers were adjusting their rates in reaction to the increased effective cost per install (eCPI) that came after ATT made it more costly to acquire new users.
